make the cut

and just like that i'm back in the city.
(with a fresh new 'do. i've been craving the bangs for a while, the only sad part is all of my super blonde locks were cut off! oh well, it lightens so quickly anyways.)
sorry for the poor quality mirror instagram photo by the way!
new york has been dreary and snowy, which just makes my wishes for warm weather soo much stronger. i wish i could say i have exciting and exotic plans to look forward to on spring break but matty and i are just staying in the city. however, we're leaving for west virginia to visit his sister at the end of this month so it's not all bad!
this was just a quick little update, so i'll leave you with a mandatory "can you believe it's already february!?"

catch ya on the flip side,

someone still loves you boris yeltsin

i'm so happy to be back home after being away for nearly one hundred days. i'm aware it doesn't sound like much...but i really missed missouri. most of my days here have been spent hunting for vintage treasures, (i found the sweetest dress from the 70's and a pretty red velvet cape), playing lots of risk and d&d campaigns and enjoying being around my close friends. we rang in the new year with gaming, sushi and pizza, so i think it was a win.
i'm working on a lot of personal goals for 2014, including one very special project that's launching next week. it's a really big step for me, and i can't wait to share it with everyone. once again, i'm resolving to not only carry my camera with me everywhere, but to document as much as possible. i often rely on my not-so-great phone camera and am left with pictures of important events that turn out to be of really poor quality. (i still regret letting matty take me to the top of the empire state building without running back to my apartment to grab a decent camera).
these are some photos i took while lounging around my house, wearing a sweater from my very last year of dresses gift card, sad face! i'm so happy i was able to grow my wardrobe after the past 12 months and expand my style as well as being comfortable to go out of the house in even crazier things...my all time favorite compliments are from old ladies who come up to me in the market to let me know they had similar shoes, dress, etc. when they were younger. my not-so-favorite comments are usually when i'm up in spanish harlem with men shouting at me to tell me that it's no longer halloween! oh well, they make me laugh in the end.
i'll stop rambling now and let you enjoy the photos, be sure to tell me what you think!

NYC Semester One

It's hard to convey everything that happened in the past four months into words, so I'll leave these photos for now. However I will say that New York is the weirdest thing to happen to me, but I'm loving every second of it. I spent most of my time in free museums or on adventures on Governor's Island, dressing up for comic con, walking around Central Park with Matthew or chilling in my dorm on 96th watching Netflix. I've been working a lot and interning a little but next semester I hope to be even busier, (...please send me coffee).

happy 2014, new york! i'll see you again in 19 days

NYFW 2013

(bottom three photos taken from the @fashionpalette instagram feed...but that's me and my model, hayley!)

I'll tell you what, nothing beats being a fashion student in NYC. Opening day of fashion week I was able to volunteer backstage for Fashion Palette and had an amazing time. From carrying my model's train behind her everywhere before the first show, (even to the bathroom...) to figuring out the zippers on the final gown in the show, it was a hectic learning experience and I loved every second of it.

Did I mention I also met Bonnie from Flashes of Style and walked right past Diane von Furstenburg? Yeah, that happened.

New York

I don't even think it's enough to say I'm loving it here. In two days I'll have been here for a month and this is my life right now:
the 6 train is my life and blood
living here i've lost five pounds, but all the pizza i've been consuming lately probably means i've gained it all back
my legs have never been so toned in my life
friday means taking the metro-north to westchester to visit matthew
celebrities aren't all that special, but meeting them is pretty cool
getting caught in photos at grand central on the way to class is hilarious
dunkin donuts is a thing and it's delicious

here's to many more months and many more adventures, i'll try to keep blogging on the regular now that i'm all settled in

call me, beep me

apologies ladies and gents, i haven't updated in a while. i'm having major issues with my computer but hoorah, i got to drop six hundred dollars on a new one that will be able to hold photoshop, after effects, bioshock, WoW and civ 5. whoa! this is a huge upgrade for me! i've been working on a piddly laptop that's smaller than both of my hands outstretched, and i have tiny hands. so look out for more posts.

in the interim, i never got the chance to wear my rule 63 (genderswapped) han solo cosplay so when i recieved this top in the mail from modcloth i immeadietly donned a cargo skirt and latched that holster up to feel like kim possible, one of my childhood heroes.
i fought crime until matt picked me up to go shoot pool, so all in all it was a great day.
